故事梗概

一对带着幼子的夫妇遭遇海难，他们奋力划着救生艇来到茂密的非洲原始森林。夫妻俩在树上筑起树屋当作临时住所，一天却不幸惨遭花豹突袭，双双丧生。与此同时，母猩猩卡娜正因为失去了小猩猩而悲啼不已，听到远处传来婴孩哭声，她循着找去发现一个人类宝宝。在母爱的驱使下，卡娜收养了这个后来被称作“泰山”的婴孩，把他带回了森林中的家。从小泰山就一直被家庭中的猩猩伙伴们嘲笑为丑八怪，为了取得大家的认同，他内心里一直以作一个杰出的猩猩为目标，他不懈地努力学习猩猩的一举一动。为了打破同伴对他的偏见和歧视，他勇敢地去做大家不敢做的事情。长大后的泰山是森林的游侠，爬树身手矫健，攀着树藤可以来去自如，还有一班猩猩好友与他四处游玩，生活再惬意不过了。这种无忧无虑、平静宁和的生活终于随着一支人类探险队的闯入而被打破，泰山发现自己的样子和外来者竟是那样相像，他开始疑惑这到底是怎么一回事。不久，他爱上探险队中博士的女儿珍妮。在猩猩妈妈卡娜将他的身世和盘道出后，泰山终天明白他也是人类的一员，可森林是他的家，他应该留在森林中还是回到人类社会？随着对珍妮的爱与日俱增和人类即将对猩猩家庭进行侵害，陷入进退两难境地的泰山，该如何作出选择？……

影片成绩

《人猿泰山》(Tarzan)这部动画片，继承了迪斯尼的一贯传统风格成功地改编了名作。影片用动画的夸张技术手法，生动地描绘泰山在藤蔓间如同飞翔般的动作，以及表现他与动物伙伴间特殊的沟通方式。在泰山的形象塑造上，除了乱中有序的头发外，泰山那张充满善良、刚毅而又略带野性的脸孔，更给观众留下了深刻的印象。片中优美动人的音乐由格莱美音乐奖获得者著名歌手兼作曲家菲尔？科林斯创作，再加上当今最先进的动画制作和一流的配音演员，影片完美再现了原着小说的内涵与意境，更融入了高度的想象力和性。影片在一周的首映中便以3400万美元的票房佳绩荣获了当周好莱坞票房冠军，这也是迪斯尼公司自4年前《狮子王》首映周票房记录4100万美元以来，目前成绩最好的一部影片，由此在各地掀起了一股“泰山”热潮。

幕后制作

菲尔·科林斯的歌曲乃一大败笔，初听一两首还可以，但连篇累牍让人受不了。森林的描绘非常逼真，可能是借用电脑技术的缘故，层次感极强。泰山**最早出现于1917年，也是最忠实埃德加·赖斯·巴勒斯原着的版本。1929年推出15集影片，虽然仍是默片，但第一次采用了泰山的吼叫。1932年的《人猿泰山》 (Tarzan the Ape Man)是第一部有关泰山的有声片，也是约翰尼·魏斯缪勒和莫琳·欧萨利文经典组合的开端，至1948年共拍了12部泰山片(欧萨利文参与了前面六部)。新近的真人版是1998年的《泰山和失去的城市》(Tarzan and Lost City)，由《星河战队》的男主角卡斯帕·凡迪恩和《情人》的女主角珍·马奇主演，在南非实景拍摄，讲泰山从英国返回非洲，以阻止搜寻失落城市欧帕的雇佣军。影片特效并不高超，但男主角身材一级棒。

埃德加·赖斯·巴勒斯――

美国作家埃德加·赖斯·巴勒斯（Edgar Rice Burroughs，1875－1950）在美国文学史上的地位虽然不高，但是他的《人猿泰山》长篇系列小说却可称得上是经典之作。自问世以来，一直经久不衰，深受广大读者喜爱。

伯勒斯开始写作是在上世纪的一十年代，除写《人猿泰山》系列之外，还着有《火星》等系列科幻小说。其文风观点介于乐观与悲观之间，作品兼有科幻、冒险成分，至今仍脍炙人口。
